Vanguards: Leading the Future of Influence

The 2026 Academic Session at the School of Communications & Media Studies is anchored on the theme – Defining What Comes Next—a clear statement of intent and responsibility in an age of rapid change. Following the strength, scale, and excellence symbolised by Titans in 2025, this theme signals a purposeful shift from mastery of the present to ownership of the future. Across media, communication, marketing, and leadership, the rules are being rewritten. Artificial intelligence, digital transformation, evolving audience behaviours, and heightened reputational expectations are reshaping how influence is built and sustained. In this context, the most valuable professionals are no longer those who merely adapt to change, but those who anticipate it, shape it, and set the standards others will follow. Defining What Comes Next reflects SCMS’s commitment to preparing scholars to lead at that level.

This theme aligns directly with the School’s 2026 academic direction, including the introduction of AI Communications & Digital Leadership, the refinement of Postgraduate Diploma pathways in Marketing Communications and Corporate Communications, and the continued advancement of the Master’s programme in Applied Strategic Communications. Together, these programmes are designed to equip professionals with the strategic clarity, technological awareness, and leadership competence required to influence outcomes in complex, fast-moving environments. Defining What Comes Next is both a challenge and a promise—to our students, faculty, alumni, and industry partners. It affirms our belief that communication is not reactive, peripheral, or secondary, but central to leadership, innovation, and institutional relevance. At SCMS, we are committed to shaping thinkers and practitioners who do not wait for the future to arrive, but who actively define it. Welcome to the 2026 Academic Session. a year of foresight, innovation, and leadership. This year, we are defining What Comes Next.
